Purring cats
One of the things cat lovers love is listening to and enjoying that low, musical
rumbling sound associated with the contented cat -- purring. Purring, a low frequency
vibration 20 to 30 times per second, is made by cats as they inhale and exhale (breathe).
How they do it is still a mystery. It's still not known exactly how this sound is produced
by cats. Experts think that purring sounds are produced by rapidly opening and closing the
vocal folds as air passes over the voice box. Cats have different styles; some crackle,
some almost hum, and some are quiet. But have you noticed, when sleeping, cats don't purr
at all?!
Haiiiii... Yaaaaa!!

Martial arts? Or is this kitten learning to walk???

Cat's Eyes
You may be startled when the green glow of a cat's eye appears in a dark room. Cats see
well in the dark thanks to special features in their eyes. Their oversized corneas and
pupils gather more light, and cats have many more of the visual cells called rod photo
receptors essential for vision in dim light. A reflective layer called the 'tapetum
lucidum' creates the green glow we see when light reflects from a cat's eyes. Light which
is not absorbed by the rod receptors is reflected by the tapedal layer and allows the
animal to have a second chance at capturing this low level of light.
